"The Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." (Luke 9:58)
Jesus is the only one who did not succumb to the illusion of possession, honour and power. We seek our security and safety in material goods (dens), which are necessary for physical life. True security is in God, not in things. Our existence depends on God, not on things. None of us is sufficient for ourselves. We are looking for someone to trust. We have only two options: God or things. I am faithful if God is my treasure, if I trust in God and God alone. Then I am a son/daughter. Jesus also gave Himself as a gift of the Father's love to us. He is small, poor and needy of acceptance. He possesses nothing and no one. His mother is the Word of the Father, his bread is obedience. He could not rest his head on the cross. After completing his pilgrimage among us to make our home and us his, he bowed his head and breathed out.
