Ko se začudimo, se naše srce odpre za sprejemanje lepega, dobrega, resničnega, vsega kar je vredno ljubezni in pravo za naše življenje. Ko smo začudeni in se čudimo, nismo radovedni in nas ne sili v analizo, da bi razumeli in si prilastili. Ko se čudimo, nas drugi od znotraj preplavi. Ko smo radovedni, pa mi preplavimo drugega. Ko se čudimo smo usmerjeni k skupnemu cilju, ki nas odpira za dobro in lepo. Ko smo radovedni se zapiramo v sebičnost in prilaščanje. Sebe in druge imamo za sredstva za svoje koristi, lagodje in uživanje. Nasprotje začudenja je trdosrčnost, ki se prelevi v jezo posedovanja in nasilja.

When we are amazed, our heart opens to receive the beautiful, the good, the true, all that is worthy of love and right for our life. When we are amazed and wonder, we are not curious and we are not forced to analyse in order to understand and appropriate. When we wonder, the other overwhelms us from within. When we are curious, we overwhelm the other. When we wonder, we are directed towards a common goal that opens us to the good and the beautiful. When we are curious we close ourselves in selfishness and possessiveness. We hold ourselves and others as means for our own benefit, ease and enjoyment. The opposite of curiosity is hard-heartedness, which turns into anger of possession and violence.
